Plain words. Last updated October 2026.

promo is a timer that runs on your computer. Your session history, notes and settings stay on your disk and never leave it unless you join a squad. This page covers what the public leaderboard on this site stores when you do.

What the leaderboard stores

DataWhy
The name you chooseTo show you on the board. It doesn't have to be your real name.
A hash of your member keySo nobody else can post as you. The key itself stays on your machine.
Phase and time left, while a timer runsThe "Right now" view. Cleared when you stop.
Today's and this week's focus minutes, streak, XP, level, best combo, session countThe rankings.
Feed items: finished sessions, achievements, level-ups, kudosThe feed. Only the latest 300 per room are kept.
Task and project nameOnly if you set share_task = true. Off by default.

What it never stores

Your notes, code, commit messages, file names, session history, email address or IP address. Rate limiting uses a short-lived hash of your IP that expires within two minutes.

How long it's kept

Until you leave. If you stop using promo, your entry is removed automatically after 90 days without a heartbeat.

Deleting your data

promo squad leave deletes your entry and every feed item that names you, then removes the squad from your config. promo forget does that and also deletes your local history, notes and member key.

Fair play

The server checks that your minutes can't grow faster than the clock. Entries that keep breaking that rule are hidden from the board, not deleted, so a mistake can be undone. The board is for fun and accountability; please don't use it to judge anyone's work.

Who runs it
